The Evansville Museum has a great location on the riverfront in downtown Evansville, Indiana. The Museum dates back to 1906 and the women’s literary society and has now expanded to its current location with exhibits on art, history, and science. The Children’s Museum of Evansville is a great place to go with kids and offers hands-on and educational learning that is age appropriate. From learning about plastic recycling to getting to construct a ball-bearing roller coaster this is a great place to learn and be challenged in a hands-on and engaging way. Visit the Evansville African American Museum (EAAM) to learn more about Evansville’s African American Community. The museum includes local black histories from 1820 to the present time. Check out the website for more information on visiting and current exhibits. Some exhibits include learning about the anti-slavery league in the area and the history of Southern Indiana and the Underground Railroad. Another exhibit includes learning more about the 1960 and 1961 Jazz Festival and how it influenced the work of Duke Ellington and Rashaan Roland Kirk.
Curious about what Evansville looked like in years past? Check out the Reitz Home Museum which provides an example of a victorian style home that is one of the best examples of French Second Empire Architecture. Located in the Historic Preservation District of Downtown, this museum is a quick drive away from Addison Place Apartments. This house is the home of one of the great philanthropists of Evansville, John Reitz, who made his fortune in lumber in the 1880s. Much of the furniture is still original to the house and is a great window back in time to Evansville in the late 19th Century.

The USS LST 325 Memorial is the last LST ship of its kind to float on U.S. waters. Beyond seeing a cool, historical navy ship, visitors can learn about their important role in WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Wars. The ship maintains its wartime configuration and while it was used in multiple wars, the ship emphasizes its history from 1941-1945. While the Lincoln Pioneer Village is located in Rockport, IN, its well worth the drive to see a visualization of the community that Abraham Lincoln lived in from 1816-1849. Step back in time and see the area’s history and what it looked like while President Lincoln lived here. While this is located right across the border in Kentucky, it's another great museum option that is focused more on nature and the outdoors. The Audubon Museum interprets and lives and work of John James Audubon, a wildlife artist and naturalist, and his family’s early 19th-century residence in Kentucky. The Museum includes over 200 artifacts including Birds of America and many other pieces of original art. After your time at the museum and nature center, take one of the hikes on-site and step into nature.
